Evil Genius - Time Bandits
"If I were creating the world I wouldn't mess about with butterflies and daffodils. I would have started with lasers, eight o'clock, Day One!"
For a film I've watched countless times I can still clearly remember my first viewing of Time Bandits. I was home sick, off from school and left to pass the time watching films and TV slumped on the sofa. From the beginning I loved the film and even in my young years spotted the cameo appearances and style of the Monty Pythons. The film was written by Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam who also produced and directed the film, it is a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned and quickly kick started my love of Python and Gilliam's film career.
What an adventure for the young boy Kevin to have six time travelling robber dwarves tumble out of his bedroom cupboard and drag him off through countless eras while being chased by the Supreme Being. Great story, wonderful script, fantastic cameos, drop dead design and imagination and above all fun. I can't pick highlights from the film because its one long 116 minute highlight. The end sequence alone, Kevin warning his parents, Connery winking from a fire engine, the map being rolled up and George Harrison's song kicking in tempts me to go right back to the beginning every time. Love it.
